Home - Patient friendly stool sampling
The faeces of people reveals a lot about their health and thus plays an important role in the early identification of diseases, including colorectal cancer. The current method for collecting faeces is, however, extremely patient-unfriendly (collecting the stool yourself and then transferring it into a plastic jar). It also entails several health risks and the results are not always reliable. To solve this problem, AT Medical has developed the FECOTAINER®: a disposable collector that is simply placed under the toilet seat 'before use' and can be well sealed with a stopper and lid 'after use', and then sent hygienically to a laboratory. Several prototypes of the stool collector have been tested in practice and assessed positively. The suggestions made by patients and doctors were used in the final design. The FECOTAINER® is a patented stool collector that is very user-friendly. It is the most reliable faeces collection method for stool testing.
- The FECOTAINER® offers patients a user-friendly and hygienic stool collection method.
- The FECOTAINER® provides the most reliable results in laboratory stool tests.
- The FECOTAINER® is a patented disposable.
- The FECOTAINER® is collapsible and, at only 28mm high, it can fit through a letterbox.
- Due to the simplicity of its use, its high degree of acceptance and the postage possibilities, the FECOTAINER® is an ideal tool for large-scale population studies (iFOBTs) / colorectal cancer screening.
The FECOTAINER® is an in-vitro medical diagnostic device (class I). It is made from recyclable plastic and the accompanying plastic delivery bag is made of biodegradable plastic.
To accede to a recent call by the European Commission to perform more preventive research into cancer, in the case of colorectal cancer – the second most deadly form of cancer in Europe – more iFOBTs (immunochemical Faecal Occult Blood Tests) will have to be performed. The results of such tests can lead to the early identification of colorectal cancer and thus significantly increase the chances of recovery (to 90%, source: KWF Kankerbestrijding, Dikkedarmkanker brochure*). The current standard method of stool collection is, however, very patient-unfriendly: once the stool has been collected using a pan, bucket, chamber pot, bin liner or newspaper, the patient must place part of it in a plastic receptacle. The receptacle regularly becomes contaminated in the process so that the health of lab technicians is put at risk (and the decision may be made not to process the stool sample further). Moreover, such contamination has a negative impact on the reliability of the results. The FECOTAINER® offers patients a user-friendly solution to the problem of stool collection.
